Lesson 18: Tablets for textbooks in Schools

Tablets for textbooks in Schools, this lesson talks about how the tablets could replace a textbook as one of the resource in student’s learning. It is said that technology is being viewed as a savior. Given the fact that students are enamored by computer games which take much of their time at home. The use of tablets in public schools in the country may be difficult considering certain factors, it cost and the technical expertise for the learning software is not widely available. There’s really possibilities that the textbooks could be replaced by tablets nowadays because of its uses. We all know that how useful tablet is aside from its capacity to store information, you can access different website to help you get through with the activities on class.
My experience in this lesson is that we’ve been divided into 2 groups and did a debate, on what is more advantage the tablet or the textbooks of course! At the end of the debate nobody was declared as the winner because even we all know how useful the tab is, we can’t assure that it will last forever, we could still expect some technical problems on the gadget. I often wondered why the government didn’t realize that It’s better to use those gadgets in education. But then, we cannot guarantee that this will give us a good technical service.
As a reflection to this lesson, I must not only rely on the things that technology could offer still, our textbooks could give us the right learning the students needed. But of course! I’ll encourage myself to master those things because today we need to learn how to do multi-tasking. I also reflect that as a future teacher, the students should be taught how to use these gadgets properly in a good means wherein they will be inspired to navigate through the use of this gadgets without going to those restricted websites whenever they will use it as a means of learning.

In application to this, I will teach my students on the proper usage of the technology so that they will become better individual who are technically aware and who knows the limits of the gadgets that they are using in the school. As it was mentioned that students nowadays were being addicted on computer games, as a future teacher maybe I could turn their addiction on computer games by means of giving them an educational games where their intelligences will be develop.

Lesson 17: Educational Technology 2 Practicum

In this lesson, it talks about how Educational Technology 2 offers the students the experiential process of adapting to technology integration within a student-centered paradigm. Where there are essential requirements for the ET 2 practicum phase will be, in the practicum phase, the use of Basic Microsoft Word was being initiated wherein the tutorial familiarizes each individual learner to the basis of Microsoft word. The students will be taught to type, edit and format text, sentences and paragraphs. This lesson is not only about learning the MS Word alone but also this includes the Microsoft Powerpoint which this will train the learners to prepare Powerpoint presentations to enhance the teaching of the subjects. The learning of internet also as tool of inquiry was also included in this lesson. This will facilitate the finding of source of information appropriate to a learning task.
My experience in this lesson is that, since we all face these digital learners, I was able to realize Internet is really very important on the activity that we had previously, it taught me that being brainy isn’t enough you must have the skills.
As a sort of reflection, I reflect that being a future teacher I must learn how to use these application like the MS Word, MS Powerpoint and the use of internet as tool of inquiry because my students would really need now a skillful and brainy teacher who could give them a satisfactory learning. I must be confident enough on delivering my lectures on class especially on using the ppt because through this presentation it will help me and the students to be participative. As I learned before in using the ppt. the teacher must put it in their mind that she/he must use some attractive object, colors or an appropriate design on the slides not merely whole text alone. Through it this will catch the students’ attention.

In application to this lesson, as I said earlier I will use all the things I’ve learned and apply it in my lectures. As a means of continuous learning I will master those applications so that whenever I’ll have my lecture the students will learn from me more.

Lesson 16: The Internet and Education

In this Lesson, the Internet is the largest and far-flung network system-of-all-systems.
Everything is coordinated through the Internet and this is done through a standardized protocol. The computer must be equipped to gain access to the Internet.
A view educational uses of the Internet
Today, even elementary school graders in progressive countries like the United States are corresponding via e-mail with pen pals in all 50 states.

Educational software materials have also developed both in sophistication and appeal. There is now a wider choice from grammar lessons to discovery and innovation projects.

My experience on this lesson is that, The Internet has introduced improvements in technology, communication and online entertainment, but it is also incredibly useful for education purposes as well. Teachers use the Internet to supplement their lessons. The reporters were good in giving their report with a comprehensive details on their report. The activity was well done.
As a sort of Reflection we must know how to use the internet well in education, though its very useful to us we cannot deny the fact that sometimes we over used it.

In application, as a future teacher, i must learn how to use the internet properly and share it to the class, because even though we already have the background about it, we still become vain on using it.

Lesson 15: Understanding Hypermedia

Lesson 15 talks about, Hypermedia. Hypermedia is nothing but multimedia, but this time packaged as an educational computer software where information is presented and student activities are integrated in a virtual learning environment. Most educational IT applications are hypermedia and these include:
·        Tutorial software packages
·        Knowledge webpages
·        Simulation instructional games
·        Learning project management
Characteristics of hypermedia applications
1.     Learner control- this means the learner makes his own decisions on the path, flow or events of instruction.
2.     Learner wide range of navigation routes- for the most part, the learner controls the sequence and pace of his path depending on his ability and motivation.
Discussion
1.     Hypermedia provides autonomous learning. How is this better than the traditional classroom learning, which often fails to consider the case of slow and poor individual learners?
ü Hypermedia is nothing but multimedia. It provides the information needed and also the activities to be made by the students to exercise their learning abilities. They have lesser chance to be left behind and greater chance to cope and pass, since there are provided tutorials for them to easily learn.

2.     How can the teacher help slow and poor learners using the traditional teaching methods?
ü They may conduct remedial classes for the slow and poor learners to cope with the studies.

3.     Hypermedia provides an atmosphere of search, exploration and discovery. How can the teacher provide such an environment in the traditional classroom?

ü Books can be used as source of learning. And the teacher may provide pictures, models, or mock-ups for the pupils to see the real structure of a thing.
My experience on this lesson was great because, i was able to know what hypermedia is. The reporter was good in presenting their report and i was able to learn from them.

As my reflection in this lesson, Hypermedia is very effective to use, it is very useful tool for a the teachers,it can use to motivate the learners and with the use of hypermedia, the teacher easily catch the attention of the students.

By using this hypermedia it is very important as a future teacher to use it properly and the teacher must have a wide knowledge on using this.

Lesson 14: The Software as an Educational Resource

As what i've learned in this lesson, there are two kinds of software:
1.     The system software. This is the operating system that is found or bundled inside all computer machines.
2.     The applications software. This contains the system that commands the particular task or solves a particular problem.
In turn the applications software may be:
(a)  A custom software that is made for specific tasks often by large corporations, or

(b) A commercial software packaged for personal computers that helps with a variety of tasks such as writing papers, calculating numbers, drawing graphs, playing games, and so much more.
Microsoft windows
This provides the following:
·        User convenience- just click a file name to retrieve data or click from program to program as easy as changing channels in your TV screen
·        A new look- fancy borders, smooth and streamlined text fonts
·        Information centre- Windows puts all communications activities (e-mail, downloads etc. in a single screen icon); adapts/configures the computer for the Internet.
·        Plug and play- configures the computer with added components, such as for sound and video.
Instructional software
In evaluating computer-based educational materials, the following can serve as guidelines:
§  Be extremely cautious in using CBIs and ‘free’ Internet materials
§  Don’t be caught up by attractive graphics, sound, animation, pictures, video clips and music forgetting their instructional worth
§  Teachers must evaluate these resources using sound pedagogical principles
§  Among design and content elements to evaluate are: the text legibility, effective use of colour schemes, attractive layout and design, and easy navigation from section-to-section (such as from game to tutorial to drill-and-practice section)
§  Clarity in the explanations and illustrations of concepts and principles
§  Accuracy, coherence, logic of information
§  Their being current since data/statistics continually change
§  Relevance/effectiveness in attaining learning objectives
§  Absence of biased materials (e.g. gender bias or racial bias)

Lesson 13: Cooperative Learning with the Computer

it is said that the Singapore has set the global pace for student-centered learning with a 2:1 (2 pupils with one computer) ratio in its masterplan for IT in Education. This shows that even in other progressive countries, the 1:1: pupil-computer ratio is still an ideal to be achieved. Reality therefore dictates that schools face the fact that each classroom, especially in public or government schools, may not be equipped with the appropriate number of computers.
The creativity of the teacher will have to respond to the situation, and so cooperative learning will likely be the answer to the implementation of IT supported learning in our schools. But the situation may not be that bad since there are motivational and social benefits to cooperative learning and these can compensate for lack of hardware that educators face.

 Defining cooperative learning

Cooperative or collaborative learning is learning by small groups of students who work together in a common learning task. It is often also called group learning but to be truly cooperative learning, 5 elements are needed:
1. A common goal
2. Interdependence
3. Interaction
4. Individual accountability
5. Social skills
Therefore not every group work is cooperative learning since students working on their work sheets physically sat around a table may be working together without these features of cooperative learning.
From several studies made on cooperative learning, it is manifested that cooperative learning in its true sense is advantageous since it:
(a) Encourage active learning, while motivating students
(b) Increases academic performance
(c) Promotes literacy and language skills
(d) Improves teacher effectiveness
In addition, there are studies show that cooperative learning enhances personal and social development among students of all ages, while enhancing self-esteem and improving social relations between racially and culturally different students.
Cooperative learning and the computer
Researchers have made studies on the learning interaction between the student and the computer. The studies have great value since it has been a long standing fear that the computer may foster student learning in isolation that hinders the development of the student’s social skills.
Now this mythical fear has been contradicted by the studies which show that when students work with computers in groups, they cluster and interact with each other for advice and mutual help. And given the option to work individually or in a group, the students generally wish to work together in computer-based and non-computer-based activities. Reflecting on this phenomenon, psychologists think the computer fosters this positive social behavior due to the fact that it has a display monitor – just like a television set – that is looked upon as something communal.
Therefore researchers agree that the computer is a fairly natural learning vehicle for cooperative (at times called promotive) learning.
Components of cooperative learning
Educators are still wary about the computer’s role in cooperative learning. Thus they pose the position that the use of computers do not automatically result in cooperative learning. There therefore assign the teacher several tasks in order to ensure collaborative learning. These are:
· Assigning students to mixed-ability teams
· Establishing positive interdependence
· Teaching cooperative social skills
· Insuring individual accountability, and
· Helping groups process information
These are in addition to assigning a common work goal in which each member of the group will realize that their group will not succeed unless everyone contributes to the groups’ success. It is also important for the teacher limits learning group clusters (six is the ideal number in a group) so there can be closer involvement in thinking and learning.

As an application to this, the following are given as a sort of learning.
Discuss the difference between peer competition and positive interdependence in a group. Simply said, aren’t there debates in group work?
ü Peer competition is the learning that happens with peers. They exchange ideas with each other. Confidence in peer competition is more exercised. In positive interdependence, there is learning within the group. Others may be shy and others may be confident enough to share their ideas.

2.     What can be done in case some members of a group do not show positive interpersonal and communication skills? Can the teacher help in this situation?
ü There are persons who are too shy to express what they want and share what they know. The teacher may help by letting them contribute one by one so that they can overcome their shyness.

3.     Do skills in listening, negotiating, compromising, punctuality, tolerance (giving others a chance to speak) part of the social skills needed in group work?
ü These things are probably the most important things in a group work. It can surely help to let the students enjoy peace while learning.
4.     How can group members ensure that each member of the group is also accountable for the group work, and not totally depended on others? In practical terms, how can the teacher grade individual students fairly in a group activity for one single output?
ü The participation of everyone in the group must be strictly observed for the teacher to know how he/she gives grade to each and to be fair for those who actively and willingly contribute to the topic. One from the group may be obligated to list all the names of contributors to each topic they take.

5.      While cooperative learning is a very good avenue for teachers to help students learn effectively, why is it not to be adopted in all classroom learning situations?

ü Cooperative learning should be applied often but the teacher should also have the time to discuss so that students may also learn from the teacher and not just only from the group.

Lesson 12 - Information Technology in Support of Student-Centered Learning

In this lesson, we shall see now the teacher can expand his option to make himself more effective and relevant in the 21st millennium information age. In particular, the lesson shall respond to questions on student-centered learning approach, particular helps on designing and adapting students-learning activities shall be examined.
in addition, suggestion shall be made on how a student-centered classroom (SCL) can be supported by information technology (IT)

The Traditional Classroom
It may be observed that classroom are usually arranged with neat columns and rows of student chairs, while the teacher stands in front of the classroom or sits behind his desk. This situation is necessitated by the need to maintain classroom discipline, also to allow the teacher to control classroom activities through lecture presentation and teacher-led discussion.

The SCL Classroom
In industrialize societies we find knowledge-based economies in which workers depend on information that can be accessed through information and communication technologies (ICT's). Desiring to gain effectiveness, efficiency and economy in administration and instruction, schools in these developed economies have also adopted the support of ICT's. Their students have now become active not passive learners, who can interact with other learners, demonstrating independence and self-awareness in the learning process.
Generally the new school classroom environment is characterized by student individually or in groups:

Performing computer word processing for text or graph presentations
Preparing power-point presentation
Searching for information on the Internet
Brainstorming on ideas, problems and project plans
As needed, the teacher facilitating instruction, also giving individualized instruction to serve individual needs.

As a sort of reflection, SCL environment is very useful especially if a nation wants to progress and develop. There are some schools here in the Philippines who already adopted the SCL environment in instruction. Others object from it since they think that and SCL can be noisy and unwieldy.
As we all know, in the traditional classroom, a teacher can discipline and manage his/her students. The teacher in that has always the first and final say in the lesson. But the difference is that in the traditional classroom, a student can sometimes feel intimidated and bored since it is always the voice of the teacher who echoes most of the time and leads the discussion. While in a SCL environment, it gives students the venue to interact with each other, be motivated as everyone can participate and enjoy. It can be as noisy as it is, but it gives the students independence and self-awareness. It does not mean that in a SCL, the teacher can no longer do classroom management. The teacher still is the one more knowledgeable than his/her students,

Lesson 11: The Computer as the teacher’s tool

In this lesson, the computer will be emphasize as the teacher’s tool, in which it support the constructivism which was introduce by Piaget on 1981 and Bruner on 1990. In this lesson also, the social constructivism was also discussed, it is said that it is an effort to show that the constructivism of knowledge is governed by social, historical and cultural contexts. Vygotsky also stressed that the learning is affected by social influences, the computer as a teacher’s tool will help the teacher in their daily task because computers can provide access to information, foster creative social knowledge building and enhance the communication of the achieved project package. In the two learning theories. It is said that the teacher can employ the computer as an information tool, communication tool, constructive tool, co-constructive tool and situating tool. We can clearly see that the computer could really help the teachers as their tool on giving lectures to the students.
When I still highschool, my teacher in TVE kept on complaining about her situation because she’s handling 15 sections with 45 students and so, her time in the classroom and in the workshop was being divided unequally, as she said that giving visual aids is really hard at 1 class session, there are 3 sections and by using the visual aid alone can’t cater all the students learning. Because of that the sisters notice how hard her task is. So the sisters gave her a set of computer and a projector so that students at the back can see the presentation. From that experience I was able to realize how important computer is. On the activity that we had it was fun and I was able to comprehend well with the 2 learning theories and some contents in this lesson.
I reflect that, as what the reporter said that computer is really a big help to the teachers so we must use it properly. Everything has its own advantages and disadvantages so things must be used properly the computer as a tool will serve as our right hand or guide in giving lectures to our students. As a future teacher, I must learn how to use the computer well so that I won’t give any confusion to my students once I’ll be having my presentation.
As an application, I’ll give my best on using the computer so, the learnings that I learned on the computer I will also share it to my students and remind them that not to rely too much on this tool but we must have the skill and mastery of this so that we won’t be applying the law of ignorance.

Lesson 10: The Computer as a Tutor

It is said that the computer is one of the wonders of human ingenuity. The computer as the tutor, we can clearly see that the computer has many uses. Computers help us to make things easier not only in education but also in business and personal interest. In this lesson, it emphasizes how computers could help the teachers as a tutor, it relieves the teacher of many in his/her personal role as classroom tutor, but it is said that computers can’t totally replace teachers so, here in this lesson there are things which the teacher needs to do. Aside from the teacher’s role in CAI the students also has something to do as a student in CAI, one of it is to understand the instructions for the computer activity.
With this lesson computer as the tutor, I remembered before when I was still studying in TESDA as an ICT student, we had this program and every code that is needed for making a games or enrollment system is located in this program. Instead our teacher will discuss it, he just let us explore it in our own. It was an exciting experience because I was able to learn the codes that I’m going to use on my Tic Tac Toe project than what our instructor told us. I didn’t say that our instructor is incapable of teaching us properly but sometimes we cannot deny the fact that there are things which is best explained by the programs on the computers than the teacher himself. On the other hand the reporters really did a good job! On letting us imagine and dramatize the importance of the softwares and some programs. The activity was fun and I was able to discover that there are some games that really help us as a student. As a future teacher, I reflect that we must make use on the things which is available and we should not rely too much on what our technologies could give us.
As an application, I’ll use various strategies and programs so that the students could use it and they won’t have difficulty in understanding my discussions aside from the programs on the computer, I won’t rely much unto it I need to believe in my own capability to teach and give the best learning for my students in the future.

The History of Technology in Education

Today's classrooms no longer resemble the classrooms that we may remember as children. Chalk has been replaced with a stylus pen. With a touch of the screen, you can change what color you want your stylus pen to write in on the board. Textbooks have been replaced with e-readers and parent-teacher conferences can be conducted via video conferencing. Technology serves different purposes within the classroom. Technology can be used as a research tool for class projects, and to enhance lessons. Technology can also be used as a communication device for students that have limited verbal abilities. This lesson will focus on the evolution of technology within the classroom - how we've moved from the chalkboard to personal devices.
My experience in this lesson is that, we are asked to draw our future classroom. Among the groups who presented, it was in this group that really caught my attention. It was so good and really funny yet so informative. I was able to witness my classmates wanted on how they picture out the future classroom.
As a reflection, since there is already an evolution of technology in learning, I must use it properly and give the best that I can in delivering my lectures on my students in the future. Traditional way of teaching can still be use but we need to use the modern way of teaching where the teacher is no longer the center of attention or shall I say the teacher should only guide the students and won’t spoon feed them too much.
In application to this, I will give my lectures in accordance to the trends today where the use of projector is being encourage to the teachers in order to deliver the lesson well in class. We are very blessed that our technology nowadays is already improving so, in order to inspire the students more, I will use the available resources to give a satisfying learnings to my students.

Lesson 9: Computers as Information and Communication Technology

It was said in this lesson that the computer is recognized as the third revolution in education. Computer technology in education has matured to transform into an educative information and communication technology or ICT in education. In my own perspective, this lesson show us how important the computer is as a form of communication and making it as one of a tool in getting information. This Microsoft office, the power point, excel, internet explorer, yahoo etc. without a computer or any gadget that could fit in to these application then communication and information gathering will not occur.
On our activity, as a sort of my experience we are asked to rank the top 5 most usable applications that could help us and the teachers. Our first was the Google, where we can search and get the information that we needed. Next on our rank is the power point presentation because this can be an alternative in giving our lecture to the class so, instead of using the blackboard we can use the ppt as a means of our presentation. The 3rd in rank was the Excel, this is very helpful especially on the teachers if they are going to compute their student’s grades. The next application is the video maker where we can capture some memories and make it alive. Lastly is we have the MS Word where we can have our copy pasting and printed materials to be done. Our activity was also fun I heard something from my classmates and I was able to value some applications which I just neglected before.
My reflection on this lesson is that, the computers must be handle with care. Eventhough it is just a mere of a tool we need to use it properly. We can’t just be like in the other country where students can just bring their own laptops during discussion, here in the Philippines, most of the schools simply use computers provided by the government, other officials or any private sectors. If we use these resources recklessly, it is hard for the teachers to let the students visualize what does it means with computers and how does it looks like. It is a challenge for me as a future teacher to use the computer properly and remind my students of its importance.
In application, I will try to demonstrate all the things which I reflected on this lesson. Remind my students that the application on the computer must be executed properly because programs or applications like that is not really perfected well.

Lesson 8: Higher Thinking Skills Through IT-Based Projects

Reflective study became the student’s pleasurable and most profitable activity. This lesson talks about the 4 types of IT based projects and how we could attain a Higher Thinking skills. By the use of the 4 types of IT based projects we can introduce to the students the principle of higher thinking skills. These projects represents constructivist projects, containing the key elements of a constructivist approach to instruction. In this lesson also the traditional learning model was being compared on the resource-based learning model.
The activity was full of fun and learnings. I was able to know the difference more on traditional and resource-based learning model. Where in the traditional the teacher is an expert and information provider while in resource-based model the teacher is a guide and facilitator. To make it short between the comparison of the two, the teacher learning model is a teacher centered learning while in the resource-based learning model the center of the learning are the students where they are expected to explore and learn by their own through the help of a teacher.
As a reflection, I couldn’t just stick on what I believe on the traditional learning model, as a teacher in the future, I must also use some sort of discovery approach where I could lead the students well and they could be able to browse the net and create a good quality output out of the activity.

In application, I will make my students go beyond the textbook and curriculum materials. I’ll just be guiding them on what to do and give them a little hint on how to do it, so that they could have time to think well on what they are going to do. By that I can assure that my students would remember what are the things being discuss inside the classroom.

Lesson 7: Evaluation of Technology Learning

In this lesson, it is said that students are expected to be not only cognitive, but also flexible, analytical and creative. As a future teacher we must adopt a new mindset both for instruction and evaluation. The learners must not only learn how to read but also they must be engage in the process of writing, reports, essays, articles, stories, power point presentations, video scripts, drama skits etc. Assessment also must focus on 4 D’s (define, design, do, debrief) this will empower the student’s higher level theoretical and practical thinking.
Through the activity that we had, I was able to learn many things. The activity was good because we all contributed to the ideas that were going to present in class. My classmates just told enough info. On how to evaluate the technology learner.
As a sort of reflection, I must expose my students to this various skills. On evaluating my students especially in the future I must be careful enough and evaluate them according to their multi-intelligences. This lesson and the previous lesson had this similarities, the only difference is that it talks on evaluating the technologically aware students. It is our task to give a good quality of education to the students in the future.
Same with what I mentioned on the previous lesson, I will try my best to apply all the learnings that I learned here in this lesson. Apply it the skills that I had learned so that the students can also use it in their everyday life. We have already the access on computers and so through the internet we can use varieties of techniques and skills to develop so that the student won’t get easily bored.

Lesson 6: Developing Basic Digital Skills

This lesson, talks about the skills that we can develop in the Basic Digital Skills these are:
·         Solution Fluency
·         Information Fluency
·         Collaborative Fluency
·         Media Fluency
·         Creativity Fluency
·         Digital Fluency
Through this skills we can be able to help the students and give them the best learning that we could offer. The higher skills was also included in this Lesson. It is said that by developing higher thinking skills, the schools today can inculcate the digital fluencies which is also true. From this lesson, we did a group activity which helps me to understand more the principles of fluency and how does it help us. We stick our explanation on our assigned task and it turned out to be fun and informative. That experience taught me that, as a future teacher we need to develop this fluency and share it to our future students. As a reflection to this lesson, since we are technologically aware now, I must be serious on constructing my lessons with the use of the fluencies being discussed in this lesson. Through this, I could assure that my students would be able to enjoy learning and discover new things.
I can’t predict what will happen in the future but at least I am prepared of what I will do. As I said in the previous sentences, through learning the fluencies I will try my best to make this possible for my students. Helping them throughout the school year. I’m hoping that our government would provide enough facilities for learning so that they could easily access to the new trends today and for the teachers as an instrument, for them to lessen the load and difficulty on emphasizing what does technology really means.

Technology in Education: A Future Classroom (My Video)

Lesson 5: Preferences of the Technology Generation

What the old generation likes may not be the same as what the new generation prefers in their life, work and leisure. The old generation really differs to our new generation now. As technology stages a change along a global dimension.
In education there is really a big difference. Lesson V differentiate the preferences of the technology generation. Single and multi-track activity patterns - The old generation would prefer to watch tele novelas which takes time. They would really love that single-track patterns of activities, they socialize and do some activities. Compared to our new generation they tend to be exposed on a quick activities, which has a task switching speed. Texts versus visuals – our parents before spend their time reading books and they went to library in order to research but our generation today, has a greater affinity to visuals just because of a one-click technology. Linear versus hyper media- it is said that the old generation, obtained information in a linear, logical and sequential manner. And this made them, logical, focused and reflective thinkers compared to our generation today, follows a personal random access to hyperlinked digital information. This made them appear more easily bored and distracted during class lectures. The independent versus social learners – this states that the traditional education system gives priority to independent learning. The new learners however, are acquainted with digital tools that would help them in searching gets easier. Learning to do versus learning to pass the test – it is said that old teachers teach the students in order to pass the test. While the new learners would simply wanted to acquire skills, knowledge, and habits. Delayed rewards and instant gratification – the traditional reward in education consists in the grades, honor certificates and diplomas. While, digital learners are contented on the feedback they had online. Rote memory versus fun learning – it is said that teachers feel obliged to delivering content-based courses, the learning of which is measurable by standard test. On the other hand, digital learners prefer fun learning.
After reading this lesson, I discover that there are things that we should still adapt on the way how the old generation learn. But we need also to remember that as a teacher he/she must not only stick on what he/she believes in on their generation. When I was in Elementary, we had this student teacher that really believes in old ways of learning even when I was in Highschool our sister always told us to go to library rather than log in a computer laboratory maybe because our sister feared that we will end up logging in Friendster or will just simply play computer games.
As a reflection, we should know how to balance everything, in this lesson where comparison was made between old learners and new learners, we can still apply what the old learners did before. When we just solely rely on digital help we may become so lazy that we don’t have time anymore to be logical in thinking. As an application, I will try my best to teach my students with the proper usage of technology.

Lesson 4: Bridging the Generation Gap

The older generation often feels there is a generation gap between them and the younger generation. This lines is true! Just to compare the difference between our generation and the generation before, there’s really a big difference. The way they dress, talk, socialize and the culture really now differs, even education was change. Before, we need to go to postal office to send letters but now just one click then we can already send a letter through email.
We can’t blame those schools who are left behind, especially when it talks about the use of technology. When schools don’t avail the changes happening, then it is hard for the students to land on a good job, knowing the fact that we are now in the new era. We need teachers that are capable of instructing the students well especially on the use of technology. I had an experience before, when we went to a certain school, it was located in a secluded area. Students were good but they lack access on computer and some other gadgets. Most of the graduates in that school didn’t pursue their studies in college. As they said that it’s hard for them because a lot of things happen in the city. The only way for them to continue their college is to went down and meet the life in the city.
It’s really hard to know that everyone is developing but there are some who were left behind. The access on technology is really needed especially in this generation. I reflect that I need to be more sensitive enough to those who don’t have any knowledge or to those who don’t have any access on technology. As a daughter, my mom and dad really experience this generation gap, I need to be good enough to teach them so that they won’t find it hard to contact me on phone. In teaching, I need to be patient in teaching my students especially those who find it hard to operate a computer. Maybe by doing this we can lessen the gap and make a difference.
The only key I guess for us to lessen that gap is to help one another. If we think for others and help them people will learn and influence others. There are some organization which promotes an awareness about technology. They help them to get an access to technology for free. A rapid change is not possible, if we know how to help others and teach them then, that generation gap will vanish.

Lesson 3: Understanding Technology Learners

Lesson 3 talks about understanding the technology learners. There’s no great teacher without a student being involve. For us to become a great teacher in our own way we need to understand first the student’s attitude.
Most of the students nowadays spend their time on facebook, playing video games and surfing the internet, yet we don’t understand them well. It is said in this lesson that, there are positive benefits in using this technology one of this is, by using those gadgets being mentioned in the lesson, it will stimulates the brain by strengthening and creating neural circuits. It will create an intellectual revolution. If there’s a positive effects upon dealing on gadgets most of the time then, negative effects also will occur. As the gadgets make life easier, we tend to do multi-tasking. The research shows that multitasking can be detrimental since it prevents concentration and the completion of specific tasks. But multitasking also is needed in the world of information technology.
Sometimes, I tend to do multitasking in 2 reasons, first is to lighten the boredom on doing a specific task and second to finish my task immediately. By doing multitasking, there’s a time you can’t guarantee that your work would have quality, there are also some time that, you finish the task without impurities. When I was a High School student, I just don’t understand about the essence of multitasking and I find it so abusing, while the teacher was discussing the topic my classmates were busy texting and surfing the net, I know it’s not good! Multitasking must be done at the right time and place. When I went to college that’s the time I realize how important it is (sometimes). From this lesson, I reflect that before I judge my students on how they behave in class about their addiction on facebook or any social media, I need to know first and understand them thoroughly. I can’t just blame them on their addiction but, as a future teacher maybe I can do something. As a student I’ll try to do multitasking at the right time and place. By doing my assignments at the right place and not inside the classroom while the class is going on. As a future teacher, I’ll make sure that my students won’t stress out during my discussion. I need to understand their addiction and relate it in my discussion so that my students won’t have this fear in going to school. In doing those things I won’t tolerate them I’ll have my whole discipline.
A teacher must be flexible enough, she should be like a mother who knows and judge according to what is right. Who will guide her students and teach them properly. It’s a challenge for us to be like a Psychologist. Knowing our students well will give us a hint on how are we going to deliver our discussions. We just need to be smart enough on what strategies are we going to use to fit in with our technology learners.

Lesson 2:An Overview: Educational Technology 2

This lesson states that, Educational Technology 2 is concerned with Integrating Technology into Teaching and Learning that is focused on introducing, reinforcing, supplementing and extending the knowledge and skills to learners so that they can become exemplary users of educational technology. As I understand from this lesson, the Educational Technology 2 is specially made for all professional teachers and student teachers who wanted to learn more about technology. Through this, we can help our students and those who are interested to be acquainted in technology.
This lesson will show the difference between Educational Technology 1 to Educational Technology 2. Educational Technology 2 would be a deeper study in which there will be a hands-on application of computer skills. This will not solely focus on our computer skills but it is primarily directed at enhancing teaching and learning through technology integration. This aims to help the students and teachers to infuse technology as a part of our teaching.
            The following are the objectives in Educational Technology 2;
·         To provide education in the use of technology in instruction by providing knowledge and skills on technology integration-in-instruction to learners.
·         To impart learning experiences in instructional technology supported instructional planning.
·         To acquaint students on Information Technology
·         To engage learners on practical technology integration issues.
·         To inculcate higher-level thinking and creativity.
My experience on our previous Instructor with Ma’am Sheila, she let us made a radio drama which was one of my best experience and let us use our gmail account to share what’s our expectations on this subject and It really helps a lot because I was able to discover my classmates expectations on the subject. After such activities, I reflect that, as a future English teacher I must be creative enough and use different strategies in teaching my students in the future. Students nowadays gets bored easily and it is our task to think of possible ways on how to maintain a good relationship with the students. One solution is that, I need to include the use of technology in teaching and engage my students in discovering great ideas and new learnings. When I was in Elementary I got a hard time dealing on the use of computer especially on the hands on activities. We had limited computers and sometimes teachers will just rely on visual aids and assume that were typing through the use of a printed or drawn image of a keyboard. Our teacher will always told us to imagine but .. it’s really hard. I easily get bored because of the repetitive use of visual aid, where in fact the subject is all about the use of computers.
We can really see the difference, on how teaching was done before and now. As an application on what I have learn, since I’m still studying, I will try my best to learn new things in this course in preparation for my career in the future. Though at times I get bored easily in some part of discussions, I’ll make sure that I will take this seriously. I have gone too far and all I need is to finish whatever I started. As a teacher someday, I will think of a better ways and strategies to cater my students multiple intelligences. As possible, I will let them experience the real thing about learning. To provide education in the use of technology in instruction, impart learning experiences in instructional technology, to acquaint students on Information Technology, to learn to use and evaluate computer based educational resources, engage the learners and inculcate higher-level thinking and creativity. At least one from this objective, that I will be able to make it possible in dealing with my students in the future.

Learning with the use of visual aid is good but, it is better to use technology as a source of instructional materials. It would be fun and it gets easier when you interact with technology, students won’t get bored and they will have their full attention on the discussion.
